Data-Driven Coffee,
Crafted with Care
Coffee is made three times - Once when it's grown, Once when it's roasted, Once when it's brewed. We can't control the environment or your grinder. But the roast? That's ours.
The Missing Middle
Coffee obsessives love talking about origins — the farm, the altitude, the processing method. And they love talking about brewing — the grind, the ratio, the pour technique.
But what happens in between? The roast itself is often a black box. "Medium roast" tells you almost nothing. When was it roasted? How was it developed? What was the roaster actually trying to achieve?
We think that's the interesting part. And we think you deserve to see it.
The Laboratory Mindset
We approach coffee the way a scientist approaches an experiment: with curiosity, rigour, and a commitment to documenting everything. Every batch we roast is logged with precise data — temperature curves, development time, first crack timing, and more.
This isn't obsession for its own sake. When we know exactly what happened during a roast, we can replicate success and learn from mistakes. The result is consistency you can taste, batch after batch.
Our flavour profiles aren't marketing poetry — they're derived from systematic cupping sessions, and translated into visualisations that actually help you find what you'll love. And when customers rate their coffee, we show their collective experience alongside ours. Differences aren't disagreements — they're data.
Honest About What We Know
We source our green coffee from established UK importers — specialists who've built relationships with producers over decades. We'll share what they share with us: country, region, process, elevation. Sometimes we know the specific farm or cooperative; sometimes we don't.
What we won't do is invent a story. If we can't verify it, we won't claim it. Many roasters romanticise origins with details they can't actually trace. We'd rather be honest about the limits of our knowledge.
As we grow, we hope to develop more direct relationships with producers. For now, we trust our suppliers to source quality, and we focus our energy on what we can control: the roast.
Small Batches, Fresh Roasts
Supermarket coffee sits on shelves for months. By the time it reaches your grinder, the volatile aromatics that make coffee magical have long since faded. You're left with bitterness and memory.
We roast in small batches, typically once or twice a week. Your order is roasted fresh and shipped within days — not weeks. The difference in your cup is night and day: brighter acidity, more complex aromatics, a finish that lingers for all the right reasons.
Fresh coffee isn't a luxury. It should be the baseline. We're here to make it accessible.
The Journey So Far
Charted Coffee began as a simple question: what if we applied the same rigour we use in our professional work — data engineering, project management, systematic thinking — to something we're genuinely passionate about?
Coffee became the answer. Not because it's easy (it isn't), but because it's endlessly fascinating. The chemistry of extraction, the physics of heat transfer, the Maillard reactions that create flavour — it all converges in the roast.
We started at home, learning the craft one roast at a time. Every batch taught us something. We built systems to capture that learning — roast logs, cupping notes, profile comparisons. What began as personal notes evolved into the transparency tools we now share with you.
We're a small operation — really small. One roaster, learning the craft batch by batch. We don't have direct relationships with coffee farmers (yet). What we have is rigour, curiosity, and an obsessive commitment to getting the roast right.
This is still early days. Thank you for being part of the experiment.
What We Stand For
The Roast Is Ours
We control one part of the journey, and we take it seriously. We share our data, our process, and our reasoning.
Systematic Quality
Consistency isn't luck — it's discipline. We measure, record, and refine continuously. Every batch builds on the last.
Honest Sourcing
We work with trusted UK importers. We share what we know about origins — and won't pretend to know more than we do.
Freshness First
Small batches, roasted to order, shipped fast. Your coffee shouldn't spend more time on a shelf than in your cup.
Your Taste Matters
Rate every coffee. See how your experience compares to oursours — and to the community. Taste is subjective; we find that interesting.
Continuous Learning
We're students of coffee, not masters. Every roast teaches us something. We share our discoveries along the way.
Ready to Taste the Difference?
Try a bag, explore the roast data, and tell us what you taste. We'll show you exactly what transparent, carefully-roasted coffee can be.
